From the “Kaleidoscope Afghan Pattern” in a Crochet Pattern Book Called “Unexpected Afghans”
This is one of the most exciting motif patterns I’ve come across in a long time. I say this because I find its construction completely fascinating.
At first glance, you might be inclined to think that there are two or more colors per round, and that you’d have to keep track of a mess of different color changes in this pattern. But if you came to that conclusion, you would be wrong — there’s only one color per round.
Take another close look and try to wrap your head around that for a minute.
See what I mean? Fascinating!
I really enjoyed working the two medallions pictured above, although I must admit, I picked some crazy colors to use for my first attempts at this pattern. While I do highly recommend this pattern, I don’t at all recommend the colorways pictured above. The colorway pictured in the actual pattern book is much nicer — it’s a warm color combination comprised of red, orange, yellow and brick red that is simply stunning.
This afghan is on my “must crochet” list, and Tammy Hildebrand is fast becoming one of my favorite crochet designers. She’s one talented lady!
